CNC Tech Tip - An easy way to reduce chatter and noise on an alloy extrusion CNC machine

Writer's picture: CNC3DCNC3D

As many of you know our CNC machines are made from 6063 aluminium alloy extrusions.

While these extrusions are tough and light, the hollow channels can create vibrations.

Vibration translates to chatter on alloy and plastics. We overcome this by flooding our channels with expanding foam.

The foam fills every crevice of the extrusion and removes almost all of the vibration.

Here's some photos of how we fill the channels on our Nighthawk PRO CNC routers.

Clean up is easy using a clean rag and acetone.

Little things can make a big difference!
