Each closed-loop stepper motor features a built-in encoder that records the number of steps taken and reports that number back to the driver which compares the number performed versus the number it told the stepper to do. If there is a discprepancy the driver will throw a fault code which can be reported back to a controller to process as it needs to.

The motors and drivers are paired accordingly to ensure everything works as expected.
